Little Free Library.....at my house ^_^

I've been thinking about ways that I can donate books to people without ACTUALLY handing them to people. I've left them in public places, I've donated to Salvation Army, Goodwill and Battered Women's shelters around town. I've wanted to do World Book Night but it's on my husband's birthday so I haven't actually been able to do it. Then I got an email from KickStarter. How would I like to back a project called Little Free Library? (Here's the link so you can view/back it too)
So I followed the link and BAM! THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!

So I reach out to Sarah Maxey and ask her "How can I start my own Little Free Library?" She was very sweet to respond to me right away and direct me to http://www.littlefreelibrary.org/. I went there and got a WEALTH of information including tips on how to collect donations and spur interest in my project.

So far, I've made a Facebook plea to my frienzies for book and money donations. Thinking of making my own Kickstarter but I'm not sure I want it to grow that big. I'm just a humble princess ;)

Let me know if you'd like to help! Thank you in advance!!

Your nerdness > mine

This week, for Reader's Choice, the winner was Star Wars vs. Star Trek with Dave suggesting it and Ems giving me an enthusiastic "YA!". Now, this got me thinking about the parameters of my nerdness. Because, you see, I don't do EVERY nerd thing listed in the book (and there IS a book) simply because I hate to follow rules. And this includes "Nerd" rules. Like, for instance, I have never seen an episode of FireFly. I know, this news is probably breaking hearts as we speak but it's the truth. I don't watch too much a lot of tv and now that I can DVR everything, I watch even LESS. (I REALLY need to catch up) So, I thought I would make a short list of the "nerd" things that I don't, or have never, enjoyed.

1. I have not watched very many episodes of Star Trek. This is WHY this blog is NOT about Star Wars vs. Star Trek. I cannot tell you all the differences except that there was a Wookie that got the shaft on Star Wars and that, as far as I know, no incest on Star Trek.
Side note: I have seen episodes of Star Trek TNG because I love Will Wheaton and I have a crush on Patrick Stewart's voice >.<

2. I love comics but I'm not going out to watch every Superhero movie because you guys say it's "awesome". Too many times have I been fooled by this word. Too many times....
And I don't just buy superhero comics. I buy ALL KINDS of comics. Even Strawberry Shortcake with the scratch and sniff covers :)
Side note: I will be purchasing the new reboot of Justice League #1 shortly. I did not go to the midnight realease party because there was a cover and I had to work. I only go sleepless for video games and Harry Potter.

3. I love manga and anime but I don't collect Pokemon or Bakugan (or however the hell you spell this) or watch Dragonball Z Kai cuz that guys buff body and small head creeps me out.

4. I don't know sh*t about computers and I wish people would stop asking me what kind of computer I have like the model I have is some kind of super computer that you should buy cuz I'm smarter than you. NO! It's a HP. Bought it from Best Buy. Go buy whatever u want!

And finally, #5. I suck at math.

There! I said it. I confessed that I'm not as big of a nerd as you think I am. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go pet my Gumby comics. :)

Nerdy thing I did today....

Decided to add a new feature to my blog called "Nerdy thing I did today" and try to keep it up for a full year. I'm pretty sure I do multiple nerdy things a day but I thought it'd be cool to admit some of it and allow my lovlies to comment and maybe admit something they did as well. Gonna continue to fight suck every day!! DFTBA= Don't forget to be awesome.....no matter how NERDY you are or aren't :)

So, without further ado, the Nerdy thing I did today was try to convince my coworker to love Wizard Wrock by bringing a cd I made with a mix of different songs :)

What nerdy thing did you do today?

When did nerd girls turn into models?!?!

I read a LOT of blogs. I follow Nerdist Chris Hardwick and I subscribe to GeekChicDaily AND The Mary Sue newsletter so I KNOW nerds and I know nerd girls. I’ve pretty much been one my whole life and while I don’t consider myself BEAUTIFUL, I don’t consider myself ugly either. And lately, it seems “nerdism” has pretty much EXPLODED into mainstream and it’s “cool” to be a nerd. Don’t get me wrong. Nerds are AWESOME!! But, now, when I see articles about nerd girls, they’re MODELS in glasses PRETENDING to read. As if nerds didn’t need another reason to feel inadequate, now we have to contend with what America thinks nerd girls look like. Yes, we wear glasses. Yes, we’re beautiful (some of us more than others) but no, we don’t ALL look like models. Some of us have body image issues starting back from when it was NOT cool to be a geek girl. I see guys posting stuff like “I love nerd girls” “I love gamer girls” and that’s great, but WHAT is it you REALLY love about nerd girls? Hopefully, it’s our brains because, otherwise, you might be a bit disappointed. Our beauty comes from WITHIN. From within our heads, within our souls and within our hearts. In that respect, I promise you’ll be completely satisfied :) Nerdfighters, UNITE!! We ARE beatiful!! But we are NOT models!! And we’re quite proud of that :)

DFTBA!! <3
